About PIA

purpose into action

I founded Purpose Into Action in the Autumn of 2021, while working for Unilever and running the Four Acres brand for them. At the time, Unilever were renown for their work on purpose leadership and had finished a ten year mission to operate with purpose at the centre of their compass (The Unilever Sustainable Living Plan).

PIA was an extension of the Unilever Social Commitments with a pledge to inspire millions of people to embark on a personal purpose journey. The foundations of this pledge were:
1. To make Four Acres into a beacon for purpose and performance, leadership and sustainability an embodiment of the belief, “people with purpose thrive, brands with purpose grow
2. To bring together like-minded people and organisations and together to make commitments and to take action to support the vision and to learn from each other.
3. To build on the 60,000 Unilever people who had voluntarily attended a Discovery your Purpose workshop by providing a faculty and curriculum to share this workshop and it’s amazing impact externally.

Unilever Four acres, 2022

Unilever Four Acres, Kingston. London 2022

In 2023 Unilever began a great transformation after uncompetitive returns and PIA was divorced from the Unilever strategy.

Four Acres is still operating and still wonderful. You can still find and review some of the interviews from early 2022 that are inspiring to date (follow this link) and the community that was founded in 2021 still exists, comprised of many purpose activists.

Our vision remains the same, to inspire millions but our thoughts have moved on and while we believe still that people with purpose thrive, we feel that purpose is one factor in the mix that enables people to live authentic, connected and contented lives. You can experience some of the Discover Your Purpose workshop by trying out the FREE Re-Connect, on-demand learning course or by attending a one-day or a five week (two hours per week) course.
